Doris Lessing (tên khai sinh: Doris May Tayler) – nữ nhà văn Anh đoạt giải Nobel Văn học năm 2007.

Tiểu sử:
Doris Lessing sinh ngày 22 tháng 10 năm 1919 tại Kermanshah, Ba Tư (nay là Iran). Bố là sĩ quan quân đội, mẹ là y tá, cả hai đều là người Anh. Năm 1925 gia đình chuyển đến Nam Rhodesia, thuộc địa Anh (nay là Zimbabwe). Cuộc sống ở quốc gia châu Phi này là một trong những nguyên nhân cho Lessing cầm bút viết văn để kể về thái độ của chủ nghĩa thực dân đối với các quốc gia thuộc địa, về sự cách biệt giữa hai nền văn hóa Đông-Tây. Lessing theo học ở trường tu viện nữ Công giáo Salisbury (nay là Harare) nhưng bỏ học giữa chừng. Thời trẻ Lessing làm các công việc như giữ trẻ, nhân viên bưu điện, nhà báo. Năm 1939, Lessing kết hôn với Frank Wisdom, họ có với nhau 2 đứa con trước khi cuộc hôn nhân đổ vỡ vào năm 1943. Năm 1945, bà kết hôn lần thứ 2 với Gottfried Lessing – một người Đức, họ có 1 con trai. Năm 1949, hai người chia tay, Lessing cùng con trai trở về London và tập trung cho sự nghiệp sáng tác văn học. Trong các thập niên 50, 60, Lessing tích cực tham gia phong trào chống vũ khí hạt nhân.

Doris Lessing bắt đầu in sách từ năm 1949. Tiểu thuyết đầu tiên The Grass is Singing (Cỏ hát), các năm từ 1952 – 1969 in bộ sách The Children of Violence (Những đứa trẻ của bạo lực) bao gồm 5 tiểu thuyết. Những năm 1979 – 1983 in bộ tiểu thuyết viễn tưởng The Canopus in Argos: Archives Series (Canopus ở Argos). Một trong những tiểu thuyết nổi tiếng nhất của bà The Golden Notebook (Nhật ký vàng) in năm 1962. Năm 1985 in tiểu thuyết The Good Terrorist (Tên khủng bố tốt bụng), năm 1988 in The Fifth Child (Đứa trẻ thứ năm), được coi làn một tác phẩm quan trọng của bà thời kỳ sau. Những năm 1990 bà in hai cuốn tiểu thuyết tự thuật Under My Skin (Dưới làn da) và Walking in the Shade (Đi trong bóng)… Năm 1995 bà được trao bằng Tiến sĩ danh dự của Đại học Harvard. Bà được tặng nhiều giải thưởng văn học của Anh và các quốc gia như Đức, Ý, Tây Ban Nha. Năm 2007 bà được tặng giải Nobel Văn học ở tuổi 87, trở thành người cao tuổi nhất trong những người được tặng giải Nobel.
